Healthy Learners Help Children with Dental Needs

News Image

Georgetown County schools partner with Healthy Learners, a faith-based, nonprofit that connects children to care so that poor health is not an obstacle to doing well in school. Healthy Learners provides assistance with the Medicaid Application Process, referrals for Clinical Counseling, Coordination of Health Care, Dental Care, Hearing Evaluations and Care, Medications, Transportation to Appointments, Treatment for Medical Needs and Vision Care. There is no charge to the child or family for Healthy Learners services.

From January to April Healthy Learners will be partnering with Horry Georgetown Technical College in Myrtle Beach to provide dental care for students that have no dental insurance or access to a dentist.

Oral health is such an important part of a child’s overall health. Untreated dental disease is painful and affects a child’s physical, emotional and social development. Children with untreated dental decay cannot eat or sleep properly; they cannot concentrate in school, not to mention how it affects them emotionally.

If your child is in need of dental care or other health care services and you would like to know if they qualify for Healthy Learners’, please contact the school nurse.
