Jonathan Espinoza-Sanchez, a sixth-grader at Georgetown Middle School, and Brittany Smith, the Pleasant Hill Elementary school nurse, were each recognized at the February 6 GCSD Board of Education meeting for their life-saving skills.

In the past few months, each saved a student’s life by quick action using the Heimlich maneuver. Espinoza-Sanchez used the maneuver to assist a classmate who was choking during lunch. Smith reacted quickly to save a student with an obstructed airway in October.

Each was presented with the district’s “Hero Award” plaque.
