COLUMBIA – Johnny Wilson, member of the Georgetown County School District board and the South Carolina School Boards Association Region 3 Director, has earned Level Six, the highest recognition in the Boardmanship Institute sponsored by the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA).

The SCSBA Boardmanship Institute, established in 1982, offers a year-round training curriculum to help board members develop skills and stay abreast of state and national educational issues. Board members can achieve up to six levels of recognition by earning points that are accrued annually from July through June for participation in statewide conferences and training provided onsite in their district.

Wilson was one of eight board members from across the state earning this achievement in 2017. Recipients were recognized by SCSBA on Saturday, February 17, 2018, during the association’s annual convention in Hilton Head.

To qualify for Level Six, board members must earn 300 points for attending training sessions over the past five years or less and pass a written exam. Conferences throughout the year focus on various topics including school law, school finance, legislation, improving board operations, leadership for improving student achievement and others.

SCSBA is a non-profit organization serving as a source of information and a statewide voice for boards governing the state’s 81 school districts.
